Sleep Apnoea

Oral devices such as the Mandibular Advancement Splints (MAS) have emerged in the last decade, as an effective treatment of Obstructive Sleep Aponea (OSA). The mechanism of action is theorised to reduce the ability of the upper airways to collapse.

This is achieved by wearing an individual designed mouthguard-type of device, intra-orally to protrude and hold the mandible in a forward position. This enables a stretching of the soft tissue that connect the mandible and tongue to the soft palate and the surrounding lateral pharyngeal walls to increase the volume of the upper airway.
